My Story
When I was 29 and again at 31, my life came to a full stop with a very serious form of viral pneumonia. A normally healthy and happy person, I could not understand why my life seemed to be upside down, unrecognisable. My doctor told me that it could take up to five years to recover fully. I thought my life was over. I sunk into depths of despair until..
During my illness, I was hospitalised both times and ended up in intensive care. My two young children (the youngest only a couple of years old), had to grow up quickly. They were my little helpers, fetching things, answering the phone and opening the front door.It seemed like I was on bed rest for an eternity, too weak to go downstairs. Some days, I couldn’t even imagine a future, which was so unlike me. I felt like a failure as a wife and mother and daughter. I had nothing to give anyone.
On one of my lowest days, I remember I reached out for help in the form of a prayer. I am not a religious person, but this prayer was voiced out of a pure desperation. My life as I had known it felt like it was over. I could not even imagine a future anymore. But in that moment I felt my prayer answered. I knew in my heart then that I would recover again. But also something felt lit up inside of me and I knew I am meant to share this through helping others. I had no idea then how or what I would do, But just as my prayer had been answered, I trusted I would be shown the way.
It was soon after at this that some wonderful books appeared in my life: One was ´You can heal your life´, by Louise L. Hay. I learnt so much from that one book which gave me hope, that anything and everything is possible and that I can create the life I want, and so I began, step by step to do just that!
As my health returned, I began training in therapies that focused on physical health and well-being such as Aromatherapy, Reflexology and Reiki. Over time, my therapy practice grew very busy with people arriving from all walks of life, where I was helping them recover from the mental and physical stresses they were experiencing.
After their treatments, they would appear so peaceful and nourished and say they felt amazing, but would return a week later with more mental and physical distress.I understood then that their beliefs, conditionings and habits were the root of their recurring problems. I realised the best way I could help them overcome their problems was through self-development and life coaching.
There began a series of training courses which continue to this day. Some of the earlier ones were in Life Coaching, self-development based on the work of Louise L Hay, stress management, meditation, neuro linguistic programming NLP, group facilitation skills and advanced deep listening skills.
I began offering training programmes and workshops which dramatically enhanced the lives of myself, my coaching clients and attendees of my courses and workshops in community, in workplace, and in sponsored courses, both nationally and internationally. I had found my purpose along with an immense passion for helping others.
Throughout this time, I let go of my biggest fear, the fear of getting ill again. This gave me the boundless energy and motivation to pursue my potential to the highest level.
Having recognised a need in the market for highly skilled and comprehensively trained life coaches, I developed the Advanced Life Coach Diploma and Career Skills Program, which is Internationally Accredited at equivalent to a level 7, with the International Authority for Professional Coaching and Mentoring (IAPC&M).
Very close to my heart are the group courses I gave to the parents of teenagers who were in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programmes and to long term unemployed people in Ireland over a period of eight years. These programs healed hearts and families, and inspired courage and hope. I am so grateful to have witnessed so much healing and happy outcomes for many of those attending my programs.
The University College in Cork City invited me to give seminars there as a guest lecturer. And Invitations and requests kept coming as my seminars and workshops were in huge demand in the health sector eg in the MS Society, Hepatitus C group, the Tinitus Society to name a few. Also, companies invited me to run programs for managing stress and work/life balance for employees. My work also brought me to Switzerland where I was invited to give workshops for an international comany based there.
It felt as though I began on my knees in my late 20s and developed into walking in my mid 30´s as my health improved and then began a jog that developed into a 15 year marathon before I arrived here in the Canary Islands.
Today, I look back at those few years in my late 20s and early 30s where my health got me to come to a full stop for a while, and I can see that where God closes a door he always opens a window as the saying goes, so out of that pain something wonderful happened. My Life !
Now as a highly skilled and internationally accredited Master Life Coach and Trainer, and having coached thousands of individuals and groups all over the world, I am living my dream in a little beautiful island, just off the coast of Africa. A simple, beautiful, quiet, meditative life,
After our two boys left the nest, I went after a dream I had held close to my heart for years with my husbands love and blessing. At 50 years of age I arrived here alone, with my suitcase and a lot of self belief that I could somehow make my dream happen. Life had not been easy before I got here. It had had its challenges, but as I always focus on the glass half full and I always believe I am guided and protected, I never ever felt alone and I really did believe that I could climb every… volcano lol !
My childhood sweetheart and husband is now here with me. We had a long distance relationship for a couple of years until he was ready to join me. It was good for both of us. And I loved the excitement when he was visiting me, like dating again. We realised no matter how good we are apart; we are amazing together.
Now my mission is to help you to pursue your dreams, to believe in yourself, to never ever give up, whether you want to overcome large hurdles like I did, increase your contentment and happiness through life coaching or join me in my accredited training program to become a truely exceptional Life Coach using your myriad of skills and experience the joy that comes from helping others.
